Ronnie Cahill - Namarrgon
$160.00
Airbrush on Canvas | 115cm x 70cm
Namarrgon is the lightning spirit. He is responsible for the spectacular electrical storms of kunumeleng, the ‘build-up’ period of intense storm activity between October and December before the ‘wet’ season. The spirit is usually shown with lightning rods encircling his body from his genitals to his head. The stone axes on his elbows and knees are thrown by Namarrgon to cause the thunder and lightning that comes with the storms. His body shape represents the Leichhardt grasshopper – they are referred to as his children, as they are most active at the same time as NamarrgonNamarrgon is the lightning spirit.
